Hi everyone,
I’d like to know if it’s necessary to use the desktop version of Visio to develop dashboards, or if the web version (Visio for Microsoft 365) is sufficient.
I tried using the web version but couldn’t get it to work as expected. Has anyone successfully created dashboards using only the web version? If so, could you share how you did it?
Thanks in advance!
Hi Erlandeson,
Good question. The desktop version is not strictly required, but it makes it a lot easier!
If you only have the web version of Visio available, then you need to do the following to make a change to a Visio of a view:
- Download the current Visio from DataMiner to your OneDrive.
- Open it in the web version of Visio.
- Make the necessary changes in Visio.
- All the linking to DataMiner objects needs to be done manually in the shape data in Visio.
- Save and then upload the modified Visio file to that view again to override this with your new version.
If you have the desktop version, it will be easier:
- One click to open the Visio file in Visio Desktop and I can make my changes immediately.
- Save in Visio and it automatically applies the changes in DataMiner.
- Linking to DataMiner objects can be done in the online editing, where you can e.g. select an element or a parameter from a drop down instead of looking up the ID and typing that in the correct shape data field.
Let us know if you would have any further questions on this topic.
