Can you dynamically retrieve catalog items based on checks in a package installation script?

Hi,

Is it possible to retrieve catalog items based on checks within a package installation script? For example, I am installing Package A, in my package A installation script I will check if package B is installed, if it is I want to install a script that allows package A and package B to communicate. This script is on the catalog, so I will need to retrieve it only in that moment when I am sure that package B exist on the DMA.

if this is not possible, is there any workaround that can gave this illusion?

Thank you in advance!

Hi Aldrick,

This is not possible today.

This topic is also on my personal wish list. Instead of requiring you to self-service building a custom solution, I'd like to provide our entire customer base with out of the box support.
The type of automatic / self-managed dependency handling from Catalog item A to verify & deploy item B as you suggested, is very similar to what I had in mind.

Though what you describe is only a small part of it. Full-fledged support comes with different caveats, expectations, and complexity.
We're still refining the whole flow. Furthermore, as much as I would like to get started on it, other things will take precedence - the implementation won't be for right away.

If you have a particular use case, much of what we have in mind for the standard support might be overkill, or allow you to take shortcuts.
Perhaps you still want to try out your own scripted solution as an MVP instead of waiting for the standard support.

I'll reach out to you to understand your situation better.
