For a staging server, it could be beneficial to use replicated elements to create the SRM resources for testing and validation purposes. Can I use replicated elements to create such resources? If so, from which DataMiner version is this supported?
Hi Gelber,
It should be possible to use elements created in such conditions, at least i don't foresee any reason not to.
As for the DataMiner minimum requirements they should be the same has the SRM package installed.
After further investigation and using the replicate element feature i confirmed that it is not possible to start a Resource DVE from Cube.
Steps to replicate:
– Replicate an Element
– Create Resources for that element
– Try setting to Enable the Resource DVE State from the General Parameters -> Resource Info
SRM by all means is not limited by this feature and bookings are starting.
Not only the booking starts successfully but even the DVE gets it status updated to Enabled properly.
It is not advisable to enable these DVE States directly form the element.
It should always be up to the software side to manipulate that flag.
Thanks David. I’ve confirmed that is possible to use a resource from a replicated element in booking without any problem.
I have to partially disagree with your last statement about the manipulation of the DVE state because during a project development this is a very convenient way to validate the structure of the designed function without having to complete the configuration of SRM and then create a booking just to have the resource available in the surveyor tree. In our case, it’s just fine because we have designed the functions already.
Of course, we shouldn’t manipulate or rely on manipulating the DVE state once the system is configured and running.
Thanks, David. I gave it a try and was able to create a resource linked to a row in a replicated element but I couldn’t show that resource (by enabling its DVE State), so there must be a block at this point to use the resources from the replicas.
