Best practice of hiding/blanking data in dashboard when element in timeout?

When an element goes into timeout it, per default, “freezes” all parameters in their last known value. If a param is monitored and included in an alarm template it keeps its alarm state.

When building a dashboard it becomes a problem because “green” parameter states can be confusing and misleading if the element is actually in timeout.

Below, the router “TOP” (containing an IP Stream interface and multiple encoder interfaces) is in timeout (the orange ring in the top left is the Element Connection State). However since some params of the Encoder 1 were in a “green” alarm state when the element timed out it might be hard to miss that this router and its interfaces is unavailable at the moment.

What’s the best way of hiding/blacking-out/resetting param alarm states (either in the dashboard or directly in the protocol) when an element is in timeout?

Hi Robin,

Thanks for bringing this up. Currently there is no way to clearly visualize the timeout of parameters. I’ll make sure to put this on our backlog.

Update:

The idea is to show the parameter in a grayed out state whenever the element is in timeout. This would be identical to how Cube does it.
