Adding the script condition ‘count(*)’ as a range

Hello, I have a requirement to count base alarms in a correlation rule but count them using the following logic (so a range of >= 4 and <7; i.e. 4, 5, or 6):-

Is Script condition  count(*) >=4

Or Script condition  count(*) <7

So I want the conditions above to only count alarms within the range of >= 4 and <7; i.e. 4, 5, or 6.

However, if you observe the oder of the conditions, you will see that the first script condition will include everything above 4 anyway and would negate the second script condition.

My question is, can you in any way combine these two conditions into one so that it counts within the range?

How else could you perform this. The existing documentation does not specify any other methods.

Hi Ken,

You can achieve this by configuring two separate script conditions combined with an AND operator:

Is Script condition  count(*) >=4

And Script condition  count(*) <7

Because both conditions must evaluate to true, the correlation rule will trigger only when the number of base alarms is 4, 5, or 6. The order of the conditions does not matter.

Using OR would not work here because any number will always satisfy at least one of the two conditions (for example, 2 is < 7, and 10 is >= 4), meaning the rule would trigger for every alarm count.

For step-by-step guidance on setting this up, check out step 5 in the DataMiner Docs: Adding rule conditions in correlation rules.

Kind regards,

Kind regards,

Hi Mauro.

Thanks for the reply.

Yeah, I did think along those lines initially, but the And operator did not yield any results. Ill check over the rest of the rule logic and stick with And for now and do more testing.

Many thanks

Hi Ken,
No worries! If you still have any issues after testing, feel free to ask. And if you do get it working, please let me know and perhaps mark the question as solved.
