DataMiner – Riedel Smart Panel Integration
This use case shows how the Riedel Smart Panel integrates with DataMiner.
The Smart Panel runs Riedel’s control panel app, which is based on open NMOS standards. By means of the DataMiner connector, the panel can be fully monitored and controlled in the DataMiner System.
DataMiner receives triggers in real time, for example when a user pushes a lever or turns a rotary knob. DataMiner executes any kind of command or complex workflow as soon as it receives the trigger for this. This can be a simple set of a router crosspoint, a parameter change on a video or audio processing unit, or even the deployment of a new service with just one click.
At the same time, DataMiner also sends information back to the Riedel Smart Panel in real time. This can be a parameter value that was just set or any other status or alarm information.

USE CASE DETAILS
This example shows how you can control a playout channel with the Riedel panel. By pushing the levers or rotary knobs either on the hardware panel or on our software panel, which is always in line with the hardware panel state, you can initiate different actions such as router or parameter control.
Here we switch to a different SMPTE ST-2110 live input. DataMiner's integrated SDN controller instructs the video server to listen to a different multicast stream.
DataMiner detects a critical error on the main playout server and forwards the alarm to the Riedel panel. The user can switch to the backup playout channel.
Here we insert a video processing unit in the signal chain. DataMiner selects an available device from a pool of processing units and loops in the device in the signal chain. The user immediately has access to its parameters. The rotary knob on the panel or the rotary element in the DataMiner control interface can be used to change parameters in real time.
Here we change a gain parameter in steps of 3db with the levers. You can also use the rotary knob on the hardware panel to adjust your gain parameter. As you can see, DataMiner will raise an alarm when a certain threshold has been reached.
DataMiner can also monitor all the files required for your playout. In this example, DataMiner informs the operator about a missing logo for the GFX engine.
You can send your video and audio signals to monitor and test equipment to further check your signal. With a monitoring-by-exception approach, DataMiner will automatically route a critical service to a penalty box multiviewer.
When a signal is lost, an ACO (active change-over) unit can trigger a failover switch to an emergency player. DataMiner can also actively trigger failover for use cases that cannot be detected by the ACO, for example the failure of the GFX engine. With a simple click of a button, you can select a different clip to be played. Note that this demo shows just one simplified playout use case, but there are many more possibilities.
Our Riedel Smart Panel connector uses websockets to connect with the panel.
DataMiner knows about the state of the panel (levers, rotary knobs, titles, LED colors, etc.) at any point in time.
