Does changing the trend windows reset the smart baseline counter?

Solved1.31K views13th May 2021smart baseline trend window

Hi,

According to the DataMiner Help, smart baselines are calculated using the median value per 15 minutes of the trend windows.

Let’s say a scenario where an alarm template is set for the first time and the trend windows is set to 7 days.

If after 4 days, the trend window is set at 2 days, does this reset the calculation to detect a deviation?

Or will it take into consideration the previous 4 days already calculated?

Thank you for your help.

Hi João

Smart baselines are calculated at specific times, for the “continuous degradation” a calculation will happen every 24h. For the “Daily pattern”, we do the calculation every 15 minutes.

Every calculation does not take the previous calculation into account, meaning that we will always use the complete trendwindow as specified, regardless of previous failures/sucesses. So technically every calculation cycle starts from scratch.

So decreasing from 7 days to 2 days after 4 days will do that same calculation as if you never set it to 7 days in the first place.
