Hi Dojo
I was browsing Cisco's catalog of Nexus connectors when I noticed something odd.
https://catalog.dataminer.services/details/2fc75210-f706-4a8a-9582-056076cc0506PTP
The Precision Time Protocol (PTP) pages display information regarding this functionality (from version 3.0.0.10 onwards). The PTP credentials must be filled in for this functionality to be activated.
I have never heard of the term PTP credentials.
There doesn't seem to be a corresponding command in the general Cisco guide either.
After all, I can get PTP information by putting in CLI page ID and password.
What should the credentials in the PTP be?
And for what purpose is it used?
Hi Yuki,
The parameters for the PTP credentials are the same as the credentials you input on the CLI page for the NX-API which I circled in an image I attached below.
Hi Yuki,
I see that this question has been inactive for some time. Do you still need help with this? If not, could you select the answer that has been most helpful for you (using the ✓ icon)?
Hi Yuki,
Once you have added the NX-API credentials which are needed to poll the PTP parameters, you will be able to collect information on PTP for Cisco switch. I have attached an image where to find the PTP information in the Dataminer Cube in the Cisco Nexus driver. Also I attached a sample dashboard showing some PTP information that is monitored and displayed.
This dashboard below lets you select a switch in your network and find the selected switch PTP information (offset from Grand Master, etc). The lower portion of the dashboard allows you to select a port on the selected switch to find Port only PTP information.
Hi Yuki,
PTP information is polled from the Cisco Switch via the Cisco NX-API.
Basically, Cisco is embedding CLI commands into the HTTP protocol.
The following link may be useful for turning on NX-API.
I included an image of the setting in the DataMiner connector that need to be set to poll the PTP information from Cisco Nexus Switch
You may need to increase the Command Timeout if the Cisco Switch is taking more than 5 seconds to respond to the API.
Hi Randy,
Yes, I do.
I think that’s the correct procedure too.
So what are these parameters? Image added. That is my question.
I understand that Nexus has an API and I also understand what parameters PTP is.
Please tell me what parameters are PTP Username and PTP Password on the connector.
What are the parameters in this image?
