solution Use Case
OB Truck Manager
Arista
The OB Truck Manager DataMiner solution is used to monitor, manage, and orchestrate a nation-wide OB van fleet in a single consolidated service-centric and automated environment.
Solution highlights:
- Manage all trucks from a central point in the system.
- Monitor the connection status of the trucks to the venues.
- Automatically detect when a truck connects to a certain venue.
- Turn monitoring on or off depending on the truck status.
- Automate common administrative tasks.
- Maintain an audit trail of truck status changes and operator-initiated actions.
Truck activation workflow:
- The OB truck arrives at the sports venue.
- The OB truck connects via dual fiber to the contribution network.
- DataMiner automatically detects when the van connects to the network and alerts the operators to enable monitoring.
- With a single click, the operator activates monitoring of truck equipment and associated network equipment for the duration of the sports event.
- When transmission is over, the truck disconnects from the network and leaves the venue.
- DataMiner alerts the operator that the truck is no longer available.
- The operator de-activates truck monitoring to avoid false alarms.
USE CASE DETAILS
Active Trucks Overview: Trucks connect to the contribution network through two redundant channels. DataMiner closely monitors the channel status via ports in Arista DMZ switches. The overview displays the name of the venue to which each truck is connected.
Truck Detection: When a new truck connects to a venue, a new LLDP row is automatically created for both the DMZ and truck switches (every truck has local Arista Ethernet switches). The DataMiner Truck Manager receives those LLDP messages and updates the truck status.
Truck State Diagram: The truck state is determinated based on a combination of inputs, including network switch LLDP updates and user actions. This gives the operators ultimate control of the monitoring workflow while taking advantage of the technology available to reduce repetitive tasks.
Truck Monitoring Dashboard: Network operators have visibility over the entire OB van fleet via a single pane of glass. Any alarm will immediately be visible to the operators.
Truck View: A dedicated view allows operators to monitor trucks individually. All DataMiner connected devices on the truck are grouped under this same view. Operators can activate or pause communication with all devices on the truck with a single click. Pausing communication can be useful to avoid unnecessary timeouts when it is known that the truck will not be connected to the network. Monitoring of associated ports in the transmission network (included in service) can be enabled or disabled.
Service Layer: Additional elements outside of the truck that are related to the truck will also be monitored (like Ethernet interfaces on the DMZ) using DataMiner enhanced services.
Audit Trail: The audit trail shows all channel status changes and all actions operators initiated via the Truck Manager.
