STaaS Migration Script package

Solved103 views3rd June 2025STaaS

When running the STaaS Migration Script package for 24hrs to gain a cost estimation does the data write to the existing local DB AND the STaaS, or do we lose 24hrs worth of data on the local storage? When starting the migration for the trail, what exactly does selecting "replication only" mean (writes to both)?

Thanks

Hi Paul

The same script can be used for an actual migration (moving all your on-prem data to STaaS), as well as for a replication run (still storing your data on-prem, but also copying it over to STaaS).

You're correct, the "Replication only" is exactly what toggles this behaviour, and is what you're after if you want a cost estimate. You won't lose the data on your local storage.

Sidenote: you are not limited to 24 hours, the script will keep on running until you restart the DataMiner System.
In this way, you can for instance replicate data for a workday & weekend day to compare the costs for normal and low load.

More info can be found here.

Hope this helps!
