How do I get access to the generic trap simulator application?
Generic Trap Simulator | Catalog
I saw some screenshots in another question and I want to try it out but I can’t see a download available.
Hi Jordan,
If you reach out to your Technical Account Manager, they should be able to help you out with access to that connector.
If your requirement is sending traps for testing purposes, the Skyline Device Simulator may be suitable as it can be used to send traps also. This comes packaged with each DMA install (C:\Skyline DataMiner\Tools\QADeviceSimulator) or can be downloaded here:
Hi Jordan,
Triggering an alarm on an element is dependent on how the connector is written to receive traps and how the elements alarm template is configured. Should you know this and the structure of the trap bindings, there is some documentation you can refer to regarding how to use the trap sender here:
Is there a specific connector you are testing with?
Hi Jason, thanks that is very useful, I did not know that tool was available as part of the installation!
I am wanting to try use the tool to send a trap to trigger an alarm, I then want to use wireshark to see the packet structure of the SNMP messages that occur in the process.
Are you able to give me any guidance on what files I am supposed to be looking at in order to trigger that sequence of sending a trap from the tool to trigger an alarm on an element please?
