Export dashboards in legacy App

Hi,

We are currently running DataMiner version 9.6.0 CU6 which has the legacy dashboard app. I have read that from version 9.6.9 onwards, there is a new app that allows the user to easily import/export the dashboards.

Since I am using the legacy dashboard app, is there a way for me to export the dashboards to a new DMA? I Have checked the folder C:\Skyline DataMiner\Dashboards and its empty.

Thanks in advance,
Carlos

Hi Carlos,

I believe that the legacy dashboards are stored in the user settings, and can be found in C:\Skyline DataMiner\Users\SharedUserSettings\Dashboard.

There is indeed no easy way to export and import with the legacy dashboards, but the files can be copied over if required.

Then again, I would surely also like to highlight the new dashboard module, which has a lot of functionality added compared to the legacy dashboard. Just saying 🙂

Hi Leander,

Thank you very much for your prompt response. Indeed I have found the files in the path you listed, but I see they are BIN files instead of JSON files. Would it just be a matter of copying these BIN files to the same path in the new DMA server?

We would love to have the new Dashboard module, I can really see the benefits of it, however, our customer doesn’t want to upgrade yet from 9.6.0 🙁

Good point indeed. Next to the .bin files, I believe you also need to copy the .aspx and .config files that are stored in the “c:\Skyline DataMiner\Webpages\Dashboards\db” directory. For each .bin file, you should also have a corresponding .aspx and .config file.

Found the 3 files! I will try copying them over. Last question, as this is a new DMA and therefore it has a different DMAid and potentially the element have different ids, which file should be the one(s) that should be modified? So far I’ve got 3 files related to my Dashboard called “test”:

_db_test.aspx.bin
test.aspx
test.config

Carlos, is it an option to just edit them from the Dashboard app itself and point it to the correct elements? That looks the most safe option to me.

Carlos Trejo commented 19th May 2021

I believe so as well, don’t want to be messing with the source files, just wanted to make sure if there was a recommended option.

Once again, thank you very much Leander!
