Hi Guys.
I have been going through our Protocols to validate them and update them with the latest best practices as highlighted in the Protocols training.
I Validated a lot of Protocols using DIS version 2.34 with no errors and as of now that I have upgraded to DIS V 2.35.1.16 all of the Protocols have picked up the error "Ping Group for SNMP is not a 'SNMP' Poll group.
I also ran the Validation on another machine running DIS V2.32 and am getting another Validation error.
While the Errors are Major but not "breaking" i am not too worried about it (my wanting to clear all errors is but that is another story) but is this something that we should be aware of.
I also understand that DIS V2.32 is the last non insider release. I have since unselected the option to have inside releases for now.
Hey Nathan,
DIS can indeed throw different errors depending on the version, as the DIS team keeps improving the error detection. In this specific case, I think the error is valid.
The ping group is used when slow polling is enabled and an element goes in time-out. Normally, it takes a group with ID -1 to ping. If it doesn't find this group, and it's an SNMP protocol, it will take the first parameter from the first group.
It is important that this group is an SNMP group, otherwise the protocol can't ping when going in time-out.
(Most of the time new errors only appear when upgrading DIS. If you get new errors with a lower DIS version, I wouldn't worry about it, as that is an error they got rid of for some reason)
