Cassandra Database

Solved1.09K views22nd March 2021

Hi,

We are looking to migrating our MSSQL database to Cassandra database, but we would like to know if DataMiner installs the Cassandra Database and then does the migration or do we have to install the Cassandra database first and then DataMiner performs the data migration.

Thanks in advance,

Carlos

I believe it does depend on where you Cassandra instance will be hosted. If you are running Cassandra on a different host or linux server, it could be different.

However, for a simple migration from MySQL to Cassandra on the same server, there is no need to install the Cassandra database manually, the migration process does download and install Cassandra as part of the same procedure.

More information on following link. Note also the item 2 of the 'Migrating To Cassandra' section, which does indicate that you can even choose if you want to start the migration after the download and installation of Cassandra.

Note: before you launch the migration step, it might also be useful to check the DataMiner system requirement, which does also mention the requirements for Cassandra.

Thanks for your response Leander, if we follow the simple migration from MS SQL to Cassandra, I assume this would install Cassandra locally for each DMA, is my understanding correct? And them, if we want to have a Cassandra cluster we can do that?

Or is it possible to have the migration and set a Cassandra cluster instead of having the Cassandra db locally on each DMA?

Thanks!

I would indeed recommend to first perform the migration to local Cassandra dBs for each DMA, and once completed then look into moving it into a cluster.

Thanks a lot Leander!

One additional note. If you want to afterwards move to a Cassandra cluster, following tool can be used: https://community.dataminer.services/documentation/cassandra-to-cassandra-cluster-migrator/

That page also contains references to a lot of other interesting Cassandra articles.
