MediaOps.LIVE redefines real-time control and orchestration for agile media operations

The first solution to unify resource management and orchestration

Built on the pioneering DataMiner xOps platform, MediaOps.LIVE redefines real-time control and orchestration as the industry’s first solution to unify these capabilities with the advanced resource management and planning found in MediaOps.PLAN, part of the MediaOps solution suite. This unique combination enables entirely new workflows for highly flexible media operations while delivering significant savings, both during the initial deployment and throughout continuous day-to-day operations.

“Traditional resource management based on offline, isolated tracking is now obsolete. It drives up integration costs and fails to deliver the hyper-agility modern operations demand. This is the industry’s first solution that natively unifies resource management and orchestration, ensuring that they seamlessly work together out of the box. In today’s world, where anything and everything can be treated as a digital resource, this is a foundational step toward smarter, faster, and more autonomous operations,” said Reinout Daels, Product Manager at Skyline Communications.

Operational agility aligned with engineered workflows

MediaOps.LIVE enables operators and engineers to dynamically deploy, configure, connect, and monitor signal paths and resources across complex environments. Whether working manually or through fully automated scheduled workflows, teams gain unprecedented operational flexibility.

The solution unifies all components within a single, vendor-agnostic platform, leveraging DataMiner’s extensive catalog of over 8,000 product integrations from 1,000 technology vendors. This comprehensive approach supports both spontaneous operational needs and structured orchestration, ensuring consistent performance across live production, contribution, distribution, and hybrid infrastructure environments.

Even from its initial launch, DataMiner MediaOps has earned prestigious industry recognition, including the BaM Award 2024CSI Award 2024, and BIRTV Recommendation Award 2024. Leading media organizations worldwide have adopted the platform to modernize their operational ecosystems. MediaOps.LIVE further builds on this success by extending the platform’s capabilities with dynamic orchestration, real-time control, and intelligent automation, all powered by Skyline’s innovative xOps operational paradigm.

Integrated signal management and workflow automation

MediaOps.LIVE introduces a tightly integrated set of capabilities that collectively reshape how signal management and infrastructure control are handled across modern media environments. An important part of this is the Virtual Signal Groups application, a user-friendly interface that allows users to configure logical signal sources and destinations from any technology— including IP, SDI, SRT, L-band, and more — and from any DataMiner-managed element. These sources and destinations can be leveraged for ad hoc routing via control surfaces or as part of pre-configured workflows in scheduled jobs.

To complement this, Skyline introduces a newly designed Control Surface, a dynamic, router-style XY panel that allows operators to make immediate manual connections between sources and destinations defined in the Virtual Signal Groups app, delivering fast and reliable signal routing on the fly, across any technology or vendor. The control surfaces will not only allow operators to set connections but also provide real-time control of parameters on equipment.

The solution will also include a robust Job Orchestration Framework, which brings full automation to the execution of scheduled workflows within the MediaOps Scheduling application. This fully integrated orchestration capability automates the end-to-end execution of scheduled jobs within the MediaOps Scheduling app. This includes automated resource configuration and signal connectivity, ensuring reliable execution of workflows, whether repeatable or one-off.

Unified connection management and real-time monitoring

Both ad hoc and scheduled connections will leverage the same connection management layer. Acting as an intelligent mediation mechanism, it simplifies automation scripts to request connections between sources and destinations without having to address underlying technical details, regardless of whether connections are initiated manually or triggered as part of an orchestrated workflow. The first release will focus on setting up connectivity across networks managed through a third-party controller, or unmanaged networks, for example over public internet.

MediaOps.LIVE will also bring monitoring capabilities, ensuring that operators always have the relevant real-time information available across all their DataMiner elements. This allows them to verify the health and performance of resources, guaranteeing that jobs run smoothly and seamlessly from start to finish.

“This is a significant milestone for DataMiner MediaOps,” said Reinout. “MediaOps.LIVE gives operators the freedom to act in real time and engineers the confidence to automate complex workflows without sacrificing control or visibility, all in seamless harmony with all scheduled services. It represents the next step in delivering truly agile, data-driven media operations.”

Laying the foundation for xOps-driven media strategies

By combining live operations, orchestration, and infrastructure control within a unified software-defined platform, MediaOps.LIVE reinforces Skyline’s broader xOps vision, an operational model that breaks down silos and integrates workflows across engineering, operations, and business. Everything in the platform is geared towards building innovative flexible media operations.

This solution enables media companies to create a unified digital twin of their operations, supporting an evolution toward more intelligent, resource-efficient, and resilient operations. The foundation supports diverse use cases, from cost optimization and security enhancement to workflow innovation and adaptive infrastructure management.

Skyline’s continued investment in the MediaOps portfolio reflects a clear commitment to helping media organizations thrive in a hybrid, data-driven future, regardless of where they are in their digital transformation journey.
