How to level up your DevOps Points

It’s easy! The more active you are in the DataMiner Dojo community and the more you work with DataMiner, the more DevOps Points you will collect. This can be achieved through a variety of actions, such as:

Asking, answering, and commenting on Dojo

Asking, answering, and commenting on questions in the Q&A section generates DevOps Points. Moreover, if your answer gets selected as the best answer by the community, you will be hit up with extra Dojo DevOps Points. The person selecting the best answer will get something extra. Even voting on questions and answers will further grow your points, as well as receiving votes (in the range of 10 to 75 points).

Completing a training

The DataMiner community offers a broad selection of free online training. Enrolling and completing any of those courses will again generate points (in the range of 25 to 250 points) and will bring you closer to being accredited as a DataMiner DevOps Professional. Note that the community also offers a variety of free self-tests to evaluate your knowledge. The successful completion of those quizzes will also result in points.

Getting your DataMiner skills certified

Optionally, you can go for the paid formal certification of some of your DataMiner skills. Upon obtaining your certification, you will be rewarded again with extra points (in the range of 500 to 1000).

Contributing to docs.dataminer.services

DataMiner DevOps Professionals work with a community mindset in which knowledge and information-sharing play a crucial role. Therefore, you are rewarded if you participate in and contribute to the documentation of the DataMiner platform, all of its features, its capabilities, and the many ways that these can be leveraged.

  • Correct a spelling or grammar mistake: 25 points
  • Add missing information: up to 300 points
  • Deliver documentation to Team Documentation at Skyline: up to 500 points
  • Make a large contribution: up to 1000 points

For more information on this point system, see DataMiner docs.

Contributing to the DataMiner Catalog

Did you design a nice add-on for a DataMiner System for a specific use case and are you willing to share and empower the larger DataMiner community via DataMiner Catalog, then you will be eligible for 250 or even up to 1000 Dojo DevOps Points. This could be a Visual Overview, Dashboard, Profile-Load script, custom GQI operator, custom Teams ChatOps operator, an Object Model, a user-definable API, or anything else.

Writing a blog post

You can opt to write and submit a blog post for the community to devops@skyline.be, which could result in 500 to 1000 points upon acceptance. Blog posts could revolve around any technology or topic relevant for the community or could, for example, describe a solution that you have designed with DataMiner.

Creating a use case

You can choose to submit a use case for the community, which could result in 250 up to 2500 points upon acceptance. Use cases could focus on a new product integration that you completed for DataMiner, or any other type of solution that you have implemented with DataMiner. You can send your use cases to devops@skyline.be.

Submitting feedback

Your feedback is valuable. You will receive DevOps Points per submission of feedback via https://aka.dataminer.services/Feedback. Each submission of the Customer Satisfaction Survey will result in 50 DevOps Points (limited to a maximum of 100 points per month).

Reward for an outstanding DevOps mindset

From time to time, Skyline staff members have the opportunity to nominate registered DataMiner DevOps Professionals who embody an exceptional DevOps mindset and demonstrate the effective application of associated best practices. This recognition results in the allocation of additional points, ranging from 100 up to 750, to the recipient's DataMiner DevOps Professional account.

Being a DataMiner ambassador

Part of being a DataMiner DevOps Professional is becoming a real DataMiner advocate. That's why you can earn 250 points simply by adding your DataMiner DevOps level to your LinkedIn headline. Once you've updated your LinkedIn profile, you can send an email to devops@skyline.be with the link to your profile page and we'll get you your points!

If DataMiner is also mentioned in the job title in your email signature, we will hit you up with another 250 points per year.

And each self-written LinkedIn post or shared post with an added personalized comment that mentions @skylinecommunications and uses the tag #dataminerdevops will result in 50 points per post.

In addition to automatic tracking for most of the aforementioned activities to generate points, our community administrators will track certain activities to the best of their abilities to ensure that everybody is awarded all the points they are eligible for in due time, but you are always welcome to expedite or facilitate the process by highlighting your activities via devops@skyline.be if these are not automatically attributed.

DevOps Points life cycle

Your DataMiner DevOps membership is valid until one year after the subscription date and is automatically renewed. Upon membership renewal, your DevOps Points reset to 0, but you maintain your DevOps membership level and its associated benefits until the next renewal. To sustain your level, acquire the required points within the 12-month period. Surpassing your level during this time results in an immediate upgrade, superseding the previous year's achievement. If you do not obtain enough points, this may lead to the loss of your DevOps level or a demotion (e.g. from Enabler to Advocate) upon the next renewal. While DevOps Points reset annually, Dojo Credits remain unaffected and can be used in the Swag Shop at any time. For more details and examples, refer to docs.dataminer.services.

Expectations

We don't expect much; only that you are truly committed to your journey toward becoming a DevOps Professional. But that's a prerequisite to be successful in just about anything in life.

What do we expect? - 55 sec.

Skill sets to consider

When considering becoming a DataMiner DevOps Professional, or when you are setting up a team of DataMiner DevOps Professionals as an organization, system integrator, or consultancy house, you can wonder about the skill sets that would be required.

New world mindset

Knowledge of and experience with agile methodologies, value delivery, objectives and key results, continuous learning, being community-oriented, empowering people, etc.

Domain knowledge & expertise

Knowledge of and experience within your specific vertical (e.g. satellite, OTT, contribution, data centers, media, energy, HFC, security, IP, cloud, IoT, etc.)

General ICT concepts & architecture knowledge

Knowledge of and experience with general concepts and technology related to CI/CD, automation and orchestration, process modeling, object modeling, IP networking, KQI engineering, coding, actionable insights, unit testing, data storage, cloud, etc.

DataMiner knowledge & expertise

Knowledge of and expertise in leveraging DataMiner, which could be focused on specific areas such as data ingest, resource control, digital twin modeling, automation and orchestration, process automation, user experience and control surface design, etc.

Setting up a continuous learning program

Recommended and focus skill sets are not prerequisites. After all, we live in an ever faster evolving technology landscape where continuous learning is the new normal. Therefore, passion and the ability to absorb new knowledge are prevailing over the existing skill set of a candidate.

Of course, it is equally essential to ensure that you set up a continuous learning program for the DataMiner DevOps Professionals, to evolve their existing skill sets as well as to acquire new ones. These skill sets can both relate to DataMiner itself and to other associated skills.

Skill sets should not necessarily be achieved through a single individual, but rather by a team. In a typical organization, you are looking at setting up an autonomous squad of up to maximum 8 individuals, workings towards well-defined goals. Hence, skill sets can also be considered at squad level.

They can also be quite broad if considered in a more generalized context and only become larger by the day. Therefore, it is also important to consider and prioritize the skills that apply most to your business, your operation, your existing teams, your strategy and goals, etc.

The spectrum of so-called ICT and software skills is continuously expanding. No longer does this solely revolve around software coding and scripting. And although the latter is still part of the overall skill set (attributed to the team), technology evolutions such as no-code development and data-engineering tools, just to name some, have broadened the number of people that can be considered candidates to strengthen your DataMiner DevOps Professionals team.

Note that many industry verticals are increasingly transforming to become more software and ICT oriented. However, that doesn’t mean that they are then fully absorbed into the software and ICT vertical, but rather that the vertical is expanding and becoming more diverse. As you will note in the skill sets provided, industry or vertical-specific knowledge and expertise is still an important consideration.

When you join the program, do it the right way

Becoming a DataMiner DevOps Professional, or setting up a team of DataMiner DevOps Professionals, is a key strategic component for ambitious career furtherance, or to build a future-proof, data-driven operation. That’s why nothing should be left to chance. The following points are some key essential considerations:

Firm corporate mandate

DataMiner DevOps Professionals need to be supported by a firm public corporate mandate, ample time and resources, and a clear mission sanctioned by the organization.

Embedded in the operation

DataMiner DevOps Professionals need to be fully integrated in the existing operational teams, cultivating a "you build it, you run it" mindset, and ensuring intimate knowledge.

Attitude & personality

Ensure the hiring of people with a matching attitude and personality to support solution advocating and corporate-wide change management.
